What is Gangaur and when it's made?

Gangaur is the main festival of Rajasthan.  The Teej of Shukla Paksha of Gangaur Chaitra month is celebrated. It is said that the marriage of God Shiva and Parvati took place on this day. On this day, virgin girls and married women worship gan(Shiva) and Gaur (Parvati).  

What are Guna?

In the worship of Gangaur, sweet gunas are offered, they are made from maida and gram flour. They are made both sweet and salty.  It is cooked in a wire syrup to make the gunas.

How to make Guna?

prep time 30 minutes.

cook time 30 minutes.

Ingredients-

for dough-

1/2 kg all purpose flour (maida).

desi ghee for moyan .

luckwarm water for kneaded.

for sugar syrup-

250 gm sugar.

1¼ cup of water.

1 tsp lemon juice.

ghee for frying.

method-

for gunas-

step 1- Mix ghee in maida and prepare its dough with lukewarm water.  The dough should not be too loose and too hard.

step 2- Roll out a large and thick paratha from the dough, then cut it with a knife at a distance of 1 inch and prepare long strips from the dough.

step 3- Prepare round gunas with long strips.

step 4- Fry the gunas in a little hot ghee till it turns pink.

step 5- Take out the fried gunas in a plate and let it cool down.

for sugar syrup-

step 1- Put sugar and water in the pan and let it boil.

step 2- After boiling, add lemon juice and prepare a one string syrup( one wire sugar syrup).

step 3- Add gunas in the Chasani and keep stirring continuously for 2 minutes until the Chasni is over( Keep the heat high or medium).

step 4- Turn off the gas and allow them to cool.  After cooling, take them out in a plate. sweet and delicious gunas are ready.

NOTE- Can be preserved once for several days by making the guna. They are not spoiled.
