What is Jamun


Jamun(malabar plum)


Jamun is a sweet astringent fruit of dark purple and black colour. It is acidic and astringent in nature but sweet in taste. Being astringent, it is eaten with salt.

What is Jamun called in English

Jamun tree is an evergreen tree.  Its scientific name is Syzygium cuminiIt is commonly known by the names of Malabar plum, Java plum, Blackberry, Jambolan etc.


What are the benefits of eating Jamun? 

Carotene, fiber, iron and magnesium are found in jamun.  Jamun seeds are a panacea for the diabetic patients, if dried the kernels of jamun and its powder is taken in the disease of diabetes, then it is very beneficial. It also gives great relief in diseases related to stomach

Jamun sharbat recipe


In this blog I will tell you the recipe of Jamun Ke Sharbat. You can easily make syrup at home.



prep time 2 minutes
cook time 10 minutes.
type of recipe: juicy.

Ingredients-

150 gm blackberry(jamun).
sugar as per your taste(chini).
water as required(paani).
1/4 tsp black salt(kaala namak).
1/4 tsp salt(safed namak).
1/2 tbsp roasted cumin powder(bhuna jeera).
mint leaves for garnishing(pudina pata).
ice cubes (barf).

method-

Wash the jamun with clean water.
Put the jamun in the cooker to boil.  Then add water, close the lid and let a whistle come on high flame.  Now turn off the gas and let the pressure release.

Mash the boiled berries with a spoon and filter through a sieve to separate the pulp and kernels and add water and sugar. Let cool in the fridge. Now add white salt, black salt and roasted cumin powder to the syrup and serve it cold. Use roasted cumin and mint leaves for serving. Use lemon slices and berries to garnish. Delicious Jamun ka sherbet is ready.
